The video export function is a great way to download your Flourish stories as an mp4 video file. In this help doc, we are going to go through the basics of this setting, as well as some frequently asked questions.
NOTE: The video export function is a premium feature and must be enabled by the Flourish team. If you believe that you should have access to this option but cannot see it, please get in touch with our customer enablement team at customersuccess@flourish.studio.

How to use the video export
- 1
- In order to use the video export option, you'll have to create a Flourish story.
- 2
- By default, each slide will last 5 seconds. To change this, enable the Autoplay story toggle.
- Then, click on a particular slide and set the desired duration in the top right-hand corner.
-
- 3
- Each slide can have a different duration. You can double-check how long a slide will play by looking at the number displayed in the bottom right-hand corner of the story preview.
- 4
- Once you are happy with your story and each slide's duration, click on the Export & publish button in the top right-hand corner. Then, select the Download video option.
-
- 5
- This will open a new window, prompting you to choose the size of the video. Most presentations and YouTube videos are of a Full (1920x1080px) resolution.
-
- 6
- However, you can easily set up custom dimensions by using the Preview settings in the top left-hand corner of the story editor. Once you choose to preview your slides at a certain height and width, this option will become available as the "current preview".
-
TIP: If you need to export custom dimensions (for example, a TikTok aspect ratio, or 1080x1920px) that are wider or higher than your screen size, the "current preview" may not be able to export these straightaway.
We recommend dividing both the width and height by two (eg. 540x960px) in such instances – this will preserve the dimensions of the desired video.
- 7
- Once you have selected your dimensions, click on Download video. Flourish will automatically render and download the video once it's ready. The popup also shows the approximate waiting time, usually around a minute per slide.
-
- 8
- Once your video has been downloaded, you can safely close the popup window.

Frequently asked questions
Please note that the video export option is a new feature that is still undergoing heavy testing and improvement. If you notice something odd with your videos that has not been mentioned below, please report the issue at prioritysupport@flourish.studio.

-
My video failed to export. Why?
In most instances, this issue is caused by the presence of a video in your Flourish story. This is a known bug that we are working on – but in the meantime, try replacing the existing video with an image instead. - 2
-
My story is quite long, could this be a problem?
Please note that currently, the maximum duration of a Flourish story to be able to be downloaded as video is 300 seconds. - 3
-
Why can't I find the "Download video" option for standalone visualizations?
The video download option works best when there is more than one slide included in the export – therefore, you can only find this feature in the story editor! However, if you would like to download one visualization as an mp4 file, you can simply add it into a single-slide story and use the video export in that way. - 4
-
Why are captions not included in the video export?
At the moment, the navigation bar is excluded from the video download to prevent the navigation arrows from being displayed in the final file. However, we are exploring different possibilities of adding the captions (without the navigation) in the video export download, and this will be possible soon.

Can I export a video with audio included?
Unfortunately, this is currently not possible within the Flourish story editor. However, a potential workaround would be to upload your downloaded video to a Canva file, add your audio file and export both assets as a video. -
