What is it for?
The marker map template is a quick and engaging way to show points of interest on a map. You can choose simple markers, emoji, icons, or even custom images to represent your data. An optional inset map helps provide context, making it easy for your audience to see both detail and the bigger picture.
How to get started

Pick a blueprint
Start in the template chooser. You’ll find several ready-made blueprints to give you a head start.

Add your data
In the Data tab, on the Locations table, enter your place names and coordinates, then decide how you want your markers to look. You can:
• Upload images directly into Flourish
• Link to an external image file
• Use emojis
• Choose from thousands of Font Awesome vector icons - 3

Add popups for interactivity
If you need to add more context to your map, upload extra columns with images, links, or descriptions. Then bind them to create popups that appear when users click a marker.

Choose your base map
Select from vector, raster, or projected base map. You can also link to a custom tileset if you have one. Explore different map styles to find the look that suits your story.
Customize layers
If you're using a vector base map, you can turn layers like labels, streets and buildings on or off. This is useful if your map feels crowded and you’d like the regions or your markers to stand out.

Highlight regions
Upload a GeoJSON file in the Regions tab to display regions underneath your markers.

Set your starting view
Define the initial zoom and position of the map. Use the auto setting, or set a specific area with centroid or bounds.

Add or edit the inset map
Use the Inset map settings to enable, disable, or style the inset map for extra context.

Style your markers
Adjust marker size, scale, and colors to bring out the key points in your data.
